Kavalan – Peatist Ex Bourbon Cask (70cl, 54%)

Kavalan Peatist Ex Bourbon Cask is a Taiwanese single malt from the Kavalan distillery in Yilan, made from peated barley malt and matured in ex-bourbon casks. It is bottled at 54% in a 70cl bottle, without added colour and without chill-filtration. The bourbon casks bring vanilla and coconut, which form a sweet base for the smoky malt. On the nose, a fine veil of peat lies over ripe mango and banana, with honey and vanilla. The palate is creamy, with vanilla, coconut and tropical fruit, followed by peat spice and dark cocoa. The finish is long and warm, with vanilla, dry cocoa and a lingering smoke that does not dominate.
