Kavalan – Solist Vinho Barrique Single Cask Strength (70cl, 56.3%)

A single cask, cask strength Taiwanese whisky from Kavalan, bottled in 2015 at 56.3% in a 70cl bottle. This is bottle 61 of 183. The whisky was fully matured in used American oak wine barrels that had held both red and white wines, and that were toasted and recharred to bring out a fruity vanilla character. A deep autumn gold in colour. The nose combines vanilla and caramelised sugars with dark chocolate on top, then ripe melon, mango, kiwi and citrus, with pepper in the background. The palate is clean and complex, with a long aftertaste.
