Kavalan – Solist Vinho Barrique Single Cask Strength (70cl, 57.1%)

A single cask bottling of Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique in a 70cl bottle, bottled in 2015 at a cask strength of 57.1%. This is bottle 186 of 238. The whisky matured fully in used American oak wine barrels that were toasted and recharred. The barrels had held both red and white wines, and the spirit has fruity vanilla notes over a background of pepper, spice and dates. Its colour is a deep autumn gold. The nose combines vanilla and caramelised sugars with dark chocolate, then ripe melon, mango, kiwi and citrus, with pepper in the background. The palate is clean and complex, followed by a long aftertaste.
