Kentucky Owl Kentucky Straight Rye is an 11-year-old American rye from Batch 1, distilled in Kentucky and bottled in July 2017 at 55.3% ABV.
The nose is sharp and prickly, with herby rye, dried dill, dark caramel, vanilla and bacon fat, then smoky hints, dried apricot, gingerbread and pencil shavings. The palate is vigorous, with salted liquorice, banana, rye bread crust, burnt sugar, spiced cherries and ginger heat. The finish is abrupt but memorable, leaving pencil shavings, rye bread and a lingering funk, with high-toned fruit and salty anise.
