Kilchoman Casado is a peated Islay single malt, bottled at 46% in a 750ml bottle. The spirit, peated to 50 PPM, was matured for six years in fresh bourbon barrels.
Thirty-eight of those casks were then brought together in two heavily charred 6,000-litre Portuguese red wine vats for a further two years. The name Casado means 'married' in Portuguese.
The nose combines campfire smoke with plums, dark cherries and peaches, plus marzipan and sea spray. The palate is peppery with salty peat smoke, then apricot and stewed plums. The finish is long and warming, with stewed fruit, saline notes and currants.
