Kilkerran 12 Year Old is a Campbeltown single malt from Glengyle distillery, bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle, in the squat version of the bottle. The whisky was matured in 70% bourbon and 30% sherry casks. Kilkerran is lightly peated, twice distilled, and bottled without added colour or chill-filtration.
Glengyle was founded in 1873, closed in 1925 and reopened in 2004 by descendants of the Mitchell family.
The nose is led by oak, with toasted marshmallows, dried fruit pudding, cherries, marzipan and a hint of peat. Citrus and orange peel open the palate, followed by vanilla, butterscotch and honeycomb. The finish is smooth, with lemon meringue, oiliness and saltiness.
