Kilkerran 12 Year Old

Kilkerran 12 Year Old is a single malt from the Glengyle distillery in Campbeltown, just down the road from Springbank. William Mitchell founded Glengyle in 1872, and production stopped in 1925. A new company bought the buildings in 2000. The name Kilkerran was chosen because Glengyle was already used for a blended Highland malt. It comes from the Gaelic name of the settlement where Saint Kerran had his cell. The nose is sweet, with Turkish delight, pear drops, marzipan and gentle peat smoke. The palate is zesty and oily, with lemon cheesecake, leather, pepper and sticky toffee pudding. The finish carries campfire smoke, pecan pie and butterscotch.
