Kilkerran is the name given to whisky from Glengyle Distillery, as the Glengyle name cannot be used for the whisky. It is derived from the Gaelic name of the first settlement on the Kintyre peninsula.
Glengyle was founded in 1872 and closed in 1925. In 2000 the owners of Springbank established Mitchell's Glengyle Ltd and rebuilt the distillery, fitting stills that came from Ben Wyvis. Whisky has been made there again since 2004.
