Kilkerran 12 Year Old is a Campbeltown single malt from Glengyle Distillery, bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It is matured for twelve years in a vatting of roughly 70% ex-bourbon and 30% ex-sherry casks.
Glengyle was revived in 2004 by J&A Mitchell & Co., the family behind Springbank. The malt is named Kilkerran, after the original Gaelic name for Campbeltown, because the Glengyle trademark was already held by another company.
Oak, toasted marshmallow and dried fruit pudding lead the nose. The palate is citrus and orange peel, then vanilla, butterscotch and honeycomb, with a briny edge. The finish tapers into lemon meringue and light salinity.
