Kilkerran Heavily Peated is a cask strength Campbeltown single malt from Glengyle Distillery, bottled at about 58.4% in a 700ml bottle. It is released in annual batches, and the strength varies slightly from one to the next.
The barley is peated to around 45 parts per million, and the spirit matures in 90% ex-bourbon and 10% ex-sherry casks. It is bottled without chill filtration. Glengyle was revived in 2004 by J. & A. Mitchell & Co., the family firm behind Springbank.
The nose combines butterscotch, vanilla, rye bread and earthy smoke, with grilled pineapple and elderflower. The palate is viscous, with honeyed malt, passionfruit and salted caramel. The finish is very long, with embers, coal dust and lemon sherbet.
