Kilkerran 12 Year Old (70cl, 46%)

This is a 12 year old Campbeltown single malt from Kilkerran, the single malt of the Glengyle distillery. It is lightly peated and bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle, without chill-filtration or added colouring. The whisky matures in a mix of 70% bourbon casks and 30% sherry casks. Glengyle took the Kilkerran name because Glengyle was already protected as the brand of a blended Highland malt. The nose recalls Turkish delight, pear drops and marzipan, with gentle peat smoke and toasted marshmallows. The palate opens zesty, with lemon cheesecake and an oily texture, before peat smoke, leather and peppery spice appear alongside sweet pudding with toffee sauce. The finish keeps a campfire-ember smokiness, with pecan pie and butterscotch.
