Lagavulin 16 Years is an Islay single malt matured in bourbon and sherry casks, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It is a peated whisky, with smoke, oak and malt as its main flavours, and is described as smoky and maritime.
The nose is very intense, with plenty of smoke, sherry and vanilla, and a maritime note with a little iodine. On the palate, light sherry sits with massive peat and some oak. It is fairly sweet, turns drier, and is oily, soft and long. The finish is long and elegant, peaty, with plenty of smoke and salty notes.
