Laphroaig – 10 Year Old (70cl, 40%)

This is a 10 year old single malt from Laphroaig, the Islay distillery on the island's south coast, bottled at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle. The distillery was founded in 1815 and still dries its own malt on traditional malting floors, over smoke from old peat-fired kilns. The peat is cut from its own fields, and it gives the whisky a medicinal smoke with an iodine-like seaweed character. In the glass, the strong, smoky flavour comes first, followed by a fine note of seaweed and an unexpected sweetness.
