This is Laphroaig 10 Year Old single malt from the south coast of Islay, finished for over 12 months in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 48%.
It keeps the intensely peaty character of the standard ten year old, with dark chocolate and maple syrup added to the flavour profile.
On the nose there are smoked meats, maple syrup, barbecued lemon, charred oak and a little coffee. The palate brings roasted cedar and peat smoke with a hint of iodine, alongside dark chocolate, honey and vanilla pod. The finish balances sherried sweetness with smouldering peat.
