Laphroaig 10 Year Old is a single malt from the distillery on the southern coast of Islay, founded in 1815. It is bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky is made from malted barley dried over Islay peat fires and aged for ten years in ex-bourbon barrels. Laphroaig is one of the few distilleries that still uses its own floor maltings.
On the nose it shows intense peat smoke, iodine and seaweed, with hints of vanilla. The palate is full-bodied and medicinal, with smoky peat, sea spray and malt sweetness. The finish is long and peaty, with a touch of salted caramel.
