This is a 35-year-old Islay single malt from Laphroaig, matured only in ex-bourbon casks of American white oak, both barrels and hogsheads. It is bottled at 43.8% in a 70cl bottle, with no added colour.
Strong Characters Chapter 2 is the second edition in a series dedicated to significant figures from Laphroaig's history. After Donald Johnston, the focus falls on his son Dugald. The worldwide release is 5,500 bottles, and Bill Bragg's illustrations of Dugald's story decorate the box and booklet.
The nose is sweet, with fresh pastry, apple and cherry. Smoke and spice lead on a creamy palate with tropical fruit, and the long, warming finish carries aniseed and a light peppery tingle.
