A 38 year old Islay single malt from Laphroaig's Archive Collection, a series devoted to the distillery's rarest whiskies. This 2025 release is limited to 400 bottles worldwide, each one hand-blown and presented in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky was matured first in ex-bourbon casks, then given a long secondary maturation in second-fill European oak that had previously held Oloroso sherry. The usual Laphroaig peat smoke is softened and well integrated.
On the nose there is spice and fruit with a zest of orange. Dried apricots and sultanas lead on the palate into salted caramel, with crystallised ginger adding a spicy edge. The finish brings back the smoke, balanced by lasting sweetness.
