Legent is a Kentucky straight bourbon created together by Fred Noe of Jim Beam and Shinji Fukuyo, chief blender at Suntory. It was introduced in 2019 and is bottled at 47% in a 70cl bottle, with no added colouring.
The base is a bourbon made to a historic Beam family recipe and aged for at least four years in new charred white oak. Part of it then matured further in sherry casks and part in red wine casks. Fukuyo blended these with more Kentucky straight bourbon, which makes up the largest share.
Oak, caramel and vanilla lead the nose, with fruity sherry notes and spice. The palate is warming, with sweet raisins, dried dates, a little dark chocolate and a light acidity. The finish is long and smooth.
