Mac-Talla Oloroso Cask Limited Edition 7 Year Old Cask Strength (70cl, 54.8%)

Mac-Talla Oloroso is a limited edition Islay single malt, matured for seven years entirely in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at a cask strength of 54.8%. It is a small batch vatted from ten sherry butts, 75 per cent first fill and 25 per cent refill, made from a heavily peated new spirit at 30 to 40 ppm phenol. The spirit was filled into European oak casks and aged in the Morrison warehouse, then rested for three months after vatting. It is non-chill-filtered, has no added colouring, and 5,000 bottles were released. Tasting notes describe peat smoke, phenols and spice on the nose. The palate is powerful, with warm spice, rich dark fruit, brown sugar and baking spices, and a peat fire in the background. The finish is very long, with peat and sherry.
