Macallan – 12 Years Sherry Oak (70cl, 40%)

This is the 12 year old from Macallan's Sherry Oak range, a Speyside single malt bottled at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It spent its whole maturation in sherry-seasoned oak casks from Jerez. The character is built around dried fruit and marmalade. The nose is crisp and sweet, with sultanas and apple blossom, a clear floral note, then sherry hints, Calvados, tropical fruit and golden syrup. The palate is medium-bodied and fairly firm, with hot pastries, marmalade, sultanas and peels, and a growing sweetness of barley sugar. The finish is of good length with a solid oak note.
