A 16-year-old single cask Macallan from Speyside, distilled in 2008 and bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society as cask 24.190 under the name An Enigma Wrapped In A Mystery. It is one of 307 bottles, in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky was matured in a single Oloroso cask and then finished in a consecutive first-fill Oloroso cask, making it a double matured Macallan.
The nose is notably colourful, with grilled padron peppers, sage, saffron, honey, menthol and paprika. The palate brings malty bedtime-drink notes and chocolate-coated honeycomb with strawberries and raspberries, and the finish has walnut oil, cinnamon and chilli.
