Macaloney's The Peat Project Islay EBC is a peated Canadian single malt from Macaloney's Island Distillery in Victoria, British Columbia. Local barley is smoked at the distillery to 54 PPM using peat hand-cut on Islay, and the whisky is then matured fully in a Kentucky Bourbon cask, which is what EBC refers to. It is bottled at 46% ABV.
The nose is light and medicinal, with iodine, sphagnum moss, juniper, pine, cherry and lychee. On the palate, vanilla, blackberry jam and blackcurrant lead to seaweed, dried tobacco and leather. The finish brings dried ginger, oak, seaweed and lingering peat smoke with a touch of honey.
