Maker's Mark 46 is a Kentucky bourbon made at the Loretto distillery. It was the first major innovation from Maker's Mark since 1958, arriving after fifty years of a single recipe. Around eight years of ageing are involved, with French oak staves placed inside American oak barrels for additional maturation. The staves are first left outdoors for 18 months. The name comes from the 46 trials the master distiller needed to reach the balance sought. Spice, rich vanilla and woody intensity are the notes it is known for.
