Maker's 46 is a Kentucky straight bourbon in a 75cl bottle, aged a little longer in barrels fitted with seared French oak staves. The mash bill is 70% corn, 16% wheat and 14% malted barley.
The name comes from Bill Samuels, Jr., who worked on the wood-finishing experiments with Master Distiller Kevin Smith and the Independent Stave Company. The stave they settled on was filed by the cooperage as Stave Profile No. 46.
The nose is big and sweet, with mocha, caramel cream and baking spice. The palate is warm and spiced, with candied cherry, butterscotch and a hint of espresso. The finish is medium-long, with black cherry syrup and honey roasted nuts.
