Mars Komagatake 2018 is a limited edition Japanese single malt, bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle. It comes from the Mars Shinshu distillery in the Nagano Alps, owned by Hombo Shuzo and sited at 798 metres above sea level, the highest whisky distillery in Japan.
The whisky was matured in selected bourbon and sherry casks, in the cool mountain climate.
The nose is delicate and fresh, with honeyed pear, white peach and alpine flowers. On the palate are vanilla cream, dried apricots and roasted chestnuts, with hints of spice and subtle smoke. The finish is persistent, with soft oak, citrus oils and a mineral note.
