Mars Maltage Cosmo Wine Cask Finish is a blended Japanese whisky bottled in 2020 at 43%, in a 70cl bottle. Cosmo is named after a mountain in the Japan Central Alps, close to the Mars Shinshu distillery.
The standard Cosmo is aged in sherry, bourbon and American white oak casks. This limited bottling is given extra seasoning in red wine casks, which give the whisky a ruby red colour.
The nose shows fruitiness and warm spice. The palate is soft and round, with ripe fruit, vanilla and cinnamon, and an umami note from the red wine casks. The finish is long, with elegant tannins and black tea.
