Martell Blue Swift is a VSOP made by finishing the house's VSOP Cognac in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. Because the finish is not in French oak, it is labelled as an eau-de-vie de vin, a distilled grape wine spirit, rather than as Cognac.
The name comes from the blue swift on Martell's bottles, a nod to the house being the first Cognac producer to ship barrels to America, from 1783.
The nose is caramelised pear and banana, turning to coconut, vanilla and a touch of spicy menthol. On the palate it is round and silky, with ginger and white fruits such as plums, ending with the toasted oak of the cask.
