Martell VSOP Médaillon is a cognac in a one-litre bottle. Its gold medallion carries a portrait of Louis XIV and marks 1715, the year the House of Martell was born.
It is a blend of eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois, aged for five to seven years in French Troncais oak barrels. It works neat and in citrus or fruit-led cocktails such as the Side Car.
The nose is bittersweet, with lime and liquorice, crystallised quince, raisin and plum, and hints of oak and hazelnut. The palate is rich and balanced, with oak to the fore. The finish is racy and fairly long, with spicy orange peel.
