Matsui Peated Single Malt Japanese Whisky (48%)

Matsui Peated Single Malt is a Japanese whisky from Matsui Shuzo, a company founded in 1910 that made sake and shochu before receiving its whisky distillation licence in 2015. The distillery stands near Mount Daisen and uses the mountain's fresh snowfall and mineral-rich groundwater to bring the spirit down to strength. The whisky is distilled in copper pot stills and matured in American white oak bourbon barrels. It has a light amber colour and is bottled at 48% ABV without chill filtration or added colouring. The nose combines freshly cut malted grain, vanilla and a slightly camphorous peatiness. The palate is fresh and herbaceous, with toasted oak, brown sugar, creamy vanilla and a smoky, minty touch, and the finish carries lingering peat smoke and fresh apple.
