A chile liqueur from Puebla, Mexico, made by Ancho Reyes (Casa Lumbre Spirits). It is based on ancho chile, the dried ripe poblano pepper, and follows a family menjurje recipe from Puebla dating back to 1927. The liqueur has 40% ABV and a deep bronze to brown colour. It delivers sun-dried ancho chile warmth, balanced sweetness and spices such as cocoa, cinnamon and tamarind, a touch of acidity and a subtly smoky finish. It can be served neat or chilled, and is also used in cocktails.
Tasting Notes
Sun-dried ancho chile, smoky dried pepper, cocoa or bittersweet chocolate, hints of tamarind and wet wood, a touch of herbal notes and cinnamon.
Sweet entry, then chile heat emerges, pleasantly warm, with cinnamon and cocoa, some acidity, fruity undertones of plum, tamarind and apple, plus almond, wood and herbal nuance.
Lingering smoky heat from the chile, mild pepper burn, spice echoes and a sweet and smoky aftertaste.
