This is a small batch, cask strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon from Michter's, released in 2024 at 108 proof. It is named in honour of Bomberger's, the distillery of the 1800s that later became known as Michter's in the twentieth century.
The 2024 release continues the use of bourbon aged in Chinquapin oak. The wood was air dried and seasoned naturally for three years before being toasted and charred. This year's recipe also includes malted rye.
The nose brings vanilla, cherry cola and a firm backbone of oak, with maple, red apple and fresh rye bread. Rye spice, baking vanilla, dried cherries and black pepper lead the palate, and the finish is spicy, sweet and a little oaky.
