Michter's Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash is the 2025 release in the distillery's Toasted Barrel Finish series. It is the third time this sour mash has been released, following the 2022 edition. It is made in Kentucky and bottled at 43% ABV.
The base is Michter's US*1 Sour Mash, matured first in new, charred American white oak. It is then moved into a second barrel made from staves air-dried for 18 months and toasted rather than charred.
The nose is toasted pine, mild oak, citrus zest and honey, with a hint of smoke. The palate is fuller than the strength suggests, with unsweetened caramel, dry orchard fruit and toasted wood. The finish is long and gently drying, with toasted bread, mild smoke and sweet wood spice.
