Michter's Small Batch US No.1 is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey from the Louisville-based Michter's. Rye is the grain the distillery is best known for, and this is its everyday expression. The grain is sheared before mashing, and the whiskey is aged in new charred oak with nothing added. It is bottled at 42.4%.
The nose is dry and spicy, with toffee, oak and a hint of blackcurrant. The palate moves through orange peel and stem ginger to brown sugar, cherry and warm cumin. The finish is long, with caramel, cinnamon, cracked pepper and crisp apple.
