Michter's – US*1 Original Sour Mash Whiskey Small Batch (75cl, 43%)

Michter's US*1 Original Sour Mash Whiskey is a small batch American whiskey that is neither bourbon nor rye. Its grain selection holds a fair amount of rye and corn with some barley malt, keeping the corn below the level needed to call it bourbon. It is matured in fire charred new American white oak barrels and bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof) in a 750ml bottle. The name refers to the sour mash process, in which part of a previously fermented mash starts the next fermentation. Michter's revived this expression in its US*1 line in 2012. The nose is caramel, fresh apple, vanilla and cinnamon with hints of nutmeg and anise. The palate is silky, with butterscotch, toffee, honeyed milk chocolate and candied cherry. The finish is warm and smoky, with gentle rye spice.
