This is the 2014 First Release of Michter's US-1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon, the first edition of the annual programme from the Michter's distillery in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Kentucky straight bourbon is finished in a second barrel that has been toasted rather than charred. Toasting uses lower heat than charring and reaches deeper wood sugars, notably hemicellulose, which the char does not. The finish barrel is described as adding vanilla, maple and toasted grain notes that charred-only ageing does not give.
