This Midleton is a 27-year-old single pot still Irish whiskey from a single cask, bottled at 49.6% in a 70cl bottle as a Travel Edition exclusively for Amsterdam Airport. It is one of 192 bottles.
The whiskey was distilled in January 1995 from a mash of malted and unmalted Irish barley in large copper pot stills. It then matured for 27 years in a first-fill bourbon barrel.
The nose is rich, with toffee, roasted malt, lemon peel, demerara sugar and ginger, and charred oak adds an earthy, woody note. The palate is mouth-coating, with pot still spice, delicate floral and herbal notes, fresh ginger, clove and soft tannins. The finish is spicy and lingering, giving way to sweet fruit and gentle oak.
