Nikka From the Barrel Extra Marriage is a limited Japanese blended whisky made for the 40th anniversary of From the Barrel, in a 50cl bottle at 51.4%.
After blending, more than 100 batches of malt and grain rest together in used puncheons for six months, twice the usual three. Coffey grain is combined mainly with malts from Yoichi and Miyagikyo. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour.
The nose is soft oak, chocolate, vanilla and orange peel, with ripe fruit, beeswax and nutmeg. The palate is full and smooth, with fine oak tannin, citrus, honey, herbs and a little smoke. The finish is long, woody and gently bitter.
