Nikka Super Rare Old (70cl, 43%)

This is a Nikka blend of malt and grain whiskies, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. A soft mouthfeel is set against floral, fruity and lightly smoky impressions, with restrained vanilla and sherry notes alongside gentle peat. The blend first appeared in October 1962, developed by Masataka Taketsuru and his son Takeshi in memory of Masataka's wife Rita, who died in 1961. The nose combines sage, lilac and lavender with mirabelle plums, wood and cumin. The palate is lively yet soft, with honey, almond milk, malt, ashy notes, marshmallow flower and violet. The finish is gentle and sweetish, with light smoke, herbal notes and aniseed.
