Nikka Yoichi 1969/2019 50th Anniversary of the Miyagikyo Distillery (70cl, 48%)

This is a Yoichi limited edition released by Nikka in 2019 for the 50th anniversary of its Miyagikyo distillery, founded in 1969. It is a single malt without an age statement, bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle. It is a vatting of Yoichi malts from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. The bottle is black and matt, with a sea motif that refers to the coastal site at Yoichi. The nose recalls pancakes with maple syrup, with oak, vanilla and coastal peat. On the palate there is bitter dark chocolate, roasted malted barley and peat smoke. The finish is very long, with oak, some charring, bright orange peel and lasting peat.
