A 20 year old cask-strength single malt from the Yoichi distillery, bottled by Nikka at 52% in a 70cl bottle.
The nose opens on old kelp, oysters and tar, with diesel oil, before settling into nuts, cigar box, leather, caramel and vanilla, with cinnamon and curry spice. The palate starts bold and spicy, with a pronounced sourness of small apples and grape skin, then moves to liquorice, varnish, tea and a touch of Fino sherry character. The finish is long, built on fresh apples and cinnamon.
