Yoichi Single Malt is a Japanese single malt from Nikka, distilled at the Yoichi distillery on the northern island of Hokkaido. Masataka Taketsuru founded the distillery in 1934, and the whisky is distilled in pot stills heated by direct coal fire.
It is matured in a mix of American oak, sherry butts and Mizunara oak. The nose is smoky, with brine, seaweed, citrus peel and malt. On the palate come dried fruit, black pepper and dark chocolate, with oak and sweet malt. The finish is long and warming, with peat smoke, baking spice and a little sea salt.
