Yoichi is the first distillery Nikka established, founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru on Hokkaido. This is its single malt, in a 70cl bottle at 45% ABV.
Taketsuru chose Hokkaido for a climate that recalls Scotland. The malt is marked by subtle peat smoke, a result of direct coal-fired distillation, and a delicate saltiness from the sea breeze during maturation.
The nose combines gentle peat smoke, maritime notes and rich malt. The palate is full-bodied, with sweet malt, light spices and smoke balanced by a touch of salinity. The finish is long and warm, with smoke and sea air.
