Nikka Yoichi Single Malt (70cl)

This is a single malt from Yoichi, the first distillery built by Nikka, in 1934. Founder Masataka Taketsuru chose the site in Hokkaido because its environment resembled Scotland, where he had learned to make whisky. It comes in a 70cl bottle. The character comes from traditional direct coal-fired distillation, which gives the whisky its peaty notes and smokiness. Sea air during maturation adds a briny hint.
