This is an 11 year old Highland single malt from Oban, a 2023 Special Release bottled at a natural cask strength of 58% in a 70cl bottle. The Malt Master finished it in Caribbean pot still rum casks, inspired by the rhythms of calypso, which add notes of sugar cane and mango to Oban's blend of Highland and Island styles.
The nose is fresh and faintly maritime, with sea breeze, seaweed, warm dunes, iodine and lemon, alongside the sugar cane and mango. The palate is very smooth, fruity and lightly salty with a steady spiciness. The finish is quite short, spicy and mouth-cooling, with a light sweet aftertaste that lengthens with water.
