This is a 12 year old Islay single malt from Octomore, distilled at Bruichladdich in 2012 and bottled for the UK market. It comes from a single second-fill Rivesaltes wine cask, and 300 bottles were released at 56.3% ABV in 70cl bottles.
The whisky is peated to 156ppm, and the wine cask is said to add elegance and depth to the peat.
The colour is polished gold. The nose opens with barbecue smoke and ginger nut biscuits, then tropical fruit, brown sugar, aniseed and ripe apple. The palate has toasted oak, worn leather, iodine, praline and dried fruits. The finish brings sweet oak, baking spices, earthy smoke and a gentle herbal note.
