A five-year-old heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich's Octomore range, with a phenol level of 101.4 ppm. It is bottled at a cask strength of 59.3%, without chill-filtration or added colour.
The whisky matured entirely in first-fill bourbon casks of American oak, which bring vanilla, caramel and citrus freshness alongside the smoke.
The nose combines sea spray and orchard fruit with gentle peat smoke, then heather, chamomile, vanilla pod and roasted almonds. On the palate, soft peat smoke leads to salted caramel, honeydew melon and apricot. The finish is long, with peat smoke, black pepper, toffee and sea salt.
