Octomore 16.3, The Impossible Equation, is the Terroir edition of the Octomore series from Bruichladdich on Islay. This five-year-old was made only with barley grown on local Islay fields and matured in first-fill bourbon, sherry and wine casks. It is bottled at a cask strength of 61.6%, with a phenol level of 189.5 ppm, and is non-chill-filtered and free of added colour.
The nose brings flowering heather and distant bonfire smoke, with barley sugar, fresh bread and a little lemon zest. On the palate, honeyed malt, roasted grain and an earthy note lead into orchard fruit and citrus. The finish is medium in length, with sweet barley and the gentle smoke of a beach fire.
