Old Carter Single Barrel #61 13 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon (75cl, 63.1%)

This is a 13-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon from a single barrel, bottled uncut and non-chill-filtered at 63.1% ABV (126.2 proof) in a 750ml bottle. The barrel yielded 175 bottles, and this is number 117, with the barrel number, bottle number and strength written by hand on the front label. Old Carter Whiskey Co. is the project of Mark and Sherri Carter, who earlier built up Kentucky Owl. They select mature Kentucky whiskey rather than distil it themselves, and the bottling took place in Frankfort, Kentucky. The nose brings dark caramel, vanilla bean, toasted oak, brown sugar and concentrated dark fruit. The palate is rich and powerful, with caramelised sugar, seasoned oak, baking spice and hints of dried cherry. The finish is long and warming, with oak, caramel and spice.
