Old Elk – Sour Mash Reserve Small Batch Bourbon Whiskey (75cl, 52.5%)

Old Elk Sour Mash Reserve is a straight bourbon from Fort Collins, Colorado, bottled at 52.5% in a 750ml bottle. Each batch in this 12-batch series is a blend of thirty barrels. It uses Old Elk's high-malt mash bill of 51% corn, 34% malted barley and 15% rye, made by the sour-mash process with an experimental yeast strain. The spirit is brought down to proof slowly over weeks under the distillery's Slow Cut method. Tasting notes describe caramel, vanilla and toasted oak over gentle spice on the nose. The palate is smooth and full-bodied, with delicate sweetness balanced by rye spice and a hint of smoke, followed by a long, warm finish.
