Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2016 is a 12 year old Kentucky straight bourbon in a 750ml bottle, released on 2 September 2016. The series honours the birthday of Old Forester founder George Garvin Brown, and this edition is a small-batch selection by master distiller Chris Morris.
Each year's release is drawn from hand-chosen 12 year old barrels, so proof and barrel make-up differ from one vintage to the next.
The nose offers caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, dried fruit and baking spice. The palate is rich and full, with toffee, dark cherry and cinnamon over a firm barrel char. The finish is long and warming, ending dry.
